Good Concealed Carry Glock - When people start talking about concealed carry and self-defense, one gun that seems to come up in the discussion almost every time is the Glock 19. Love Glocks or hate them, there's no denying that this weapon has a bandwagon. fans here in the United States.
And why not? If it's good enough for many law enforcement agencies, this 9x19mm polymer pistol should be fine for most civilians. Well, I've been carrying a Gen4 Glock 19 for a few years now, and I'm ready to share some of my experiences while carrying it.

Basically, here's what you need to know about using the Glock 19 as your EDC carry weapon of choice.
The 10 Best Concealed Carry Handguns Of The Past 20 Years
For anyone unfamiliar, the Glock 19 is a semi-automatic, polymer-framed assault pistol. Glock lists it as 9mm on their website, although for most gun enthusiasts you will find it somewhere between a sub like the Glock 26 and a full size Glock 17. The difference between the different generations of the same pistol is a hidden one. . The G3 model has an overall length of just over 7.36 inches. The Gen4 and Gen5 models come in 7.28 inches. All three guns have a 4.02-inch length and offer standard 15-round magazines, unless you live in a state with ammo restrictions.
Whichever version you choose, you're looking at about 24 ounces unloaded and 30 ounces fully loaded, which makes these guns a bit heavy when you're talking concealed carry weapons. I will talk more about that weight and how to reduce it later.
As for the other differences, Glock added forelocks and slightly rocked the front of the slide on the Gen5 models. Interestingly, the Gen5s are slightly wider than the Gen3 and 4 at 1.34 inches. Another major difference is that the Gen3 and 4 have fingerprint slots on the grip, while the Gen5 does not. Most of the internal components of the gun are the same for generations. There are some differences in the internal functions, but unless you're a real stickler, you're unlikely to notice.
Finally, we cannot recommend a specific generation of Glock pistols for CCW. We recommend that you go to a store near you and try each one to see what is right for you. It will be different for every shooter. I should note that all of the experiences I will discuss in detail involve the stock Gen4 model. I know I can add things like aftermarket shock absorbers or rebound springs to improve performance. I don't like these things very much. Sure, the trigger pull is small, but I'm used to it more than I use it. Some will even argue that you need to put a few thousand rounds through a new one to break it in properly. Overall, I found the G19 to be adequate for my needs right out of the box.

As we mentioned earlier, the Glock 19 comes in at about 30 ounces fully loaded. A tight gun belt is an absolute must when carrying a G19 or it will fall down and become uncomfortable. We highly recommend purchasing a special gun belt that is built specifically for this purpose with reinforced loops and holes. If you want to use it as a daily wear, you will want it to be comfortable. Remember that you usually get what you pay for these days, and you probably won't have a great experience if you skip something as simple as a seat belt.
When it comes to holsters, you will find many different ideas. Personally, I have been using Alien Gear Holsters for several years. Specifically, I used the Clock Tuck IWB holster for my Glock 19. If anyone here is new to concealed carry, IWB stands for "inside the waist." (It should be obvious, but the OWB cover is the one used outside the waist.)
Overall I am happy with my purchase. Alien Gear builds their holes well with polymer and leather. The side that presses against your body is dense and comfortable. It is best to include spacers, bolts and nuts to further adjust the cone to your preferred shape. I like to carry this gun mostly on the back or "six o'clock" and it's amazing how smooth the profile is. I will even wear it most of the time in the summer months. I have to be careful when wearing t-shirts that I have enough to cover my back, but I noticed that there is no print when using this hat. One downside is that the padded leather back takes up a lot of real estate on your body. If it's hot, it can sweat and irritate the skin if you don't watch it. If you work outdoors a lot, you may want to consider another holster or smaller weapon.
However, I have always felt most comfortable and confident carrying weapons in this gun range. It offers a great grip and the shell also completely encloses the trigger guard, which was one of the main reasons I bought it. Remember the Glock 19 does not have a manual safety. If you're going to take one into the room, you'll need something that reduces the chance of accidental release.
Glock 43x Black: Best Self Defense Gun For Concealed Carry?
Aside from Alien Gear, the other brand many G19 owners prefer seems to be Kydex Holsters from Fierce Defense. The price point is almost the same as the Alien Gear, but the Kydex has a much smaller profile which makes it ideal for shooters with smaller scopes or those hoping to carry a Glock 19. Although it is worth it Note that most users of this holster say it works in almost any position. I haven't tried the Kydex holster so I can't personally comment on that, but Amazon reviews highlight this item with over 300 ratings, which I personally find to be a good sign for most products.
I've been carrying my Glock for over three years now and I'm mostly satisfied. There have been a few times I've thought about picking up a Glock sub, maybe larger in size than the 9mm Luger. If only because there are some days where the 30-ounce gun is too close, even with the quality belt I mentioned earlier.
One thing is for sure, I have always felt safe and confident that I can handle any self-defense situation that may arise. Fortunately, I have never had an incident and I hope never to. One of the other reasons I chose the 19 was simply because it feels full size in the hands compared to one of the smaller models. It simply gives me a little more confidence that I can use the gun properly in an emergency if needed. For big-handed shooters, the 19 seems to be the perfect compromise between trying to cram in a full-size rifle and adjusting your grip on a smaller computer.
Most experts also say that you should never need more than three to five rounds if you are unfortunate enough to get into a fight. However, I have always believed in the saying "To have and not need is better than to need and not have." Having 15 rounds in the gun gives little peace of mind. The best thing about the Gen4 Glock is that it loads three magazines. If you can find a magazine in your favorite holster, that's 45 rounds you can potentially carry on your person. Is taking that much ammo too much? Can be. I hope I never find out.
